It all started with a “Bro & Bro” biz
In 1996, two brothers had a wild idea. One knew everything about plants, the other knew business, and together they hatched a plan!
Roger went to school for horticulture while Rodney was climbing the corporate ladder in the Credit Union industry, but they shared a dream of owning a business together. So they did what any reasonable siblings would do – they started a landscaping company that somehow turned into a full-blown nursery.
In 2001, we took over a small mom-and-pop shop in Dillsburg and turned it into what we lovingly called our "bro and bro" operation. We expanded everything – the inventory, the hours, the fun – and 16 years later, we went even bigger.
In 2017, we built our current 44-acre nursery from the ground up, creating more space for plants, people, and of course, our now-famous Bigfoot statue.

We believe life’s
better in the garden
We're lucky people – and we know it! Around here, we believe today is always the best day of the week because you can actually do something about it. While bad days happen to everyone (even plants have rough seasons), nothing gets you out of a funk faster than spreading mulch or planting a tree.
That's probably why we're only open 210 days a year. When we're here, we're all-in: sharing laughs, swapping gardening stories, and helping you find exactly what your yard needs. The other 155 days? Well, even plant people need time to recharge!
Want to meet the family that keeps this place growing? Each sibling brings something special to the nursery (besides having a name that starts with 'R' – thanks, Mom!)
Meet the Plant-Loving Family

Ron (The Much Older Brother)
Hall of Fame softball player (for real) and our resident storyteller. Retired from his "real job" but can't resist making deliveries – and sharing suggestions about how we should run literally everything at the nursery.
If you've got time, he's got a story!

Roger (Owner)
Gets one haircut a year and shaves his mustache even less. Has been misidentified as Bigfoot more times than we can count. Fortunately, he knows more about trees and shrubs than any sasquatch we've met. Wears 11 different hats on any given day, making sure things run smoothly around the place.

Rodney (Owner)
Played college football at Penn State...once, while tailgating before a real game. The little brother that every family needs (and sometimes wants to get rid of). Runs the behind-the-scenes stuff and helps out wherever needed. Credit Union executive who loves trading spreadsheets for plant beds when he’s onsite at the nursery.

Dee (Sister)
Puts in 15,000 steps daily at the nursery and will talk to you about absolutely anything. Helps customers find the perfect plants and makes spot-on suggestions about what to buy.
Widely agreed to be “too good looking” to be our sister, but that’s probably why her name doesn’t start with ‘R’.

The Legend of Our Bigfoot
If you walk in and say, “What the heck is up with that Bigfoot?!” you’re not alone. Here's the thing about unexpected detours – sometimes they’re even better than your original plan.
We wanted a huge turkey statue as a conversation starter (you know, because we're Turkeyfoot Nursery). But when the statue company didn't have any turkeys we liked, they shipped us a Bigfoot instead.
Given Roger's, uh, striking resemblance to our new sasquatch friend, everyone assumed we'd planned it that way. Now this not-so-little guy stands guard at our front gate, welcoming every visitor with his legendary presence.
He's become such a local celebrity that we regularly catch folks posing for selfies with him. We even run Facebook contests for the best Bigfoot photos – maybe you’ll be the next champion. You just gotta stop by first!

Plant Care Basics
A few tips to keep your new purchases happy…

How to Plant a Tree Like a Pro
-
Dig the hole twice as wide as the root ball (yes, really – plants like their personal space)
-
Keep 1 inch of the root ball above ground level (think of it as the plant's personal viewing platform)
-
Water should run away from the trunk, not toward it (plants don't appreciate swimming pools)
-
If water's running toward the trunk, your hole's too deep. Fill it in until that inch of root ball shows above ground
-
Mix starter fertilizer into your backfill soil (think of it as a welcome-home snack)
-
Stake if needed (some plants need a little extra support, just like we all do sometimes)
-
Then get to watering! (more tips on that below)

The secret to keeping plants alive?
It’s water!
Ok, not really a secret ;-) Give your new plants a proper, hydrating welcome:
-
Water at the base 3-4 times per week
-
Let it trickle slowly (plants prefer sipping to chugging)
-
Continue this spa treatment for a full year after planting
-
Keep the water flowing until it soaks into
-
both the root ball and surrounding soil
